Outreach

Here are some very worthy organizations where HBITO students could inquire about volunteering. These organizations are always looking for volunteers. Outreach coordinator Linda Kim (lhkim@ucalgary.ca).

Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta

Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta provides a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick children receiving medical attention in a Calgary hospital. Though the House has grown and changed since opening in 1985, the purpose remains the same - keeping families together in a compassionate and comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

The HBITO Outreach committee volunteered to cook dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. They prepared a dinner including chicken, potatoes and vegetables. To see pictures from the dinner. click here.

In the past, they prepared "Breakfast for Dinner" including bacon, sausage, waffles, scrambled eggs and more.  To see pictures from the dinner, click here.

Brain Bee

The Hotchkiss Brain Institute hosts an annual Brain Bee for high school students from Calgary and area. Similar to a spelling bee, a brain bee tests neuroscience knowledge of aspiring young scientists.

ARBI offers hope to people who have been devastated by a severe brain injury. Through our 30 years of providing long-term, intensive therapy and support to individuals, we know that survivors experience positive life changes. Significant improvements can happen years following their injury.

Volunteers are required to support individuals with severe acquired brain injuries. This is an ideal opportunity for students planning to enter medically related fields of study.
